EARLY YEARS
GRADES 1-6

The Early Years at St. Ignatius School give children a clear academic edge while keeping learning engaging, balanced, and joyful. Guided by the Manitoba Curriculum, our program goes further - building strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking through intentional instruction and meaningful, hands-on learning.
Students are encouraged to think independently, solve problems, and communicate with confidence. High expectations are paired with support, helping students grow in skill, confidence, and motivation. Reading and writing are taught with purpose and consistency. Mathematics lessons are connected to real life. Science sparks curiosity through exploration and discovery.
Faith is woven naturally into the rhythm of each day, shaping character, kindness, and a strong sense of belonging. Daily prayer, age-appropriate religious education, and school liturgies support spiritual growth, while Sacramental preparation Reconciliation (Grade 2) and First Communion (Grade 3) are a shared journey between home, school, and parish.
Music, physical education, and French round out a rich, well-balanced program. Students receive approximately 110 minutes of French per school cycle from Kindergarten to Grade 3, increasing to 150 minutes per cycle in Grades 4–6, with a focus on oral language through music, movement, and immersion.
At St. Ignatius, children are challenged, supported, and genuinely excited to learn as they gain confidence, develop academic skills and a love of learning.
