OUR  STORY

Where tradition moves forward.

For more than a century, St. Ignatius School has stood at the heart of its community, founded in faith, built on service, and guided by a deep commitment to excellence. Our story began in 1909, when land was purchased at Stafford and Corydon to build a school rooted in Catholic values and community.  On January 12, 1912, St. Ignatius School opened its doors to nineteen students, taught by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.  Their devotion, discipline, and care laid the foundation for generations to come.

As belief in this education grew, so did the school.  An expansion followed in 1917. By 1928, enrollment surpassed 300 students, and by the 1950s, St. Ignatius had become a cornerstone of the community, serving more than 600 children.  Through the Great Depression, two World Wars, and decades of change, families and parishioners continued to invest in what mattered most: forming strong students and good people.

That mission and resilience continues to define us today.  In 2007, when a major fire damaged part of the school, classes resumed after just four days and rebuilding began immediately, a powerful reminder that our school moves forward, no matter the challenge.  Our students are challenged to think deeply, act with integrity, and lead with heart.  Every child is known.  Every gift is nurtured.  Every day reflects our belief in forming the whole child, mind, heart, and spirit.
