3. Walk, roll or stroll to a nearby park or trail

4. Fly a kite and watch the clouds roll by

5. Teach and let your child teach you favourite versions of jump rope, hoola hoop, marbles or jacks.

6. Creative play such as designing a backyard obstacle course using accessible household items.

7. Play catch or kick a ball

8. Plan a treasure hunt and practice the skill of orienteering

9. Wash the car together

10. Plant a vegetable garden together and enjoy the fall harvest

The Athletic Prayer

This is something I read on NFL.com one day. Just to be sure I give full credit, it is written by Gregg Easterbrook in one of his weekly TMQ articles.

God,
Let me play well but fairly.
Let competition make me strong, but never hostile.
Forbid me to rejoice in the adversity of others.
See me not when I am cheered,
But when I bend down to help my opponent up.
If I know victory, allow me to be happy.
If I am denied, keep me from envy.
Remind me that sports are just games.
Help me to learn something that matters once the game is over.
And if through athletics I get to be an example,
let it be a good one.
